This community is built between Waverley West and Pembina Highway and has been under development for the past 15 to 20 years. This community is only minutes from the sprawling University of Manitoba Campus. Richmond West has a new community centre under construction there are plans to develop a 33 acre park in the area. The community has an elementary school located within it's center with parks and playgrounds, which are already in place and are well utilized. The area has one public library and a Junior and High School located within close proximity. The Canadian Nazarene College, offering religious studies is on the west north section, just off Waverly. Only moments away from Pembina Highway, Richmond West is easily accessible to downtown Winnipeg or Bishop Grandin Boulevard and Route 90.
This community’s schools are managed by the Pembina Trails School Division . Currently, there is an elementary school Bairdmore located on Bairdmore Blvd and there are two Junior High Schools within close proximity: Arthur A. Leach (in Waverly Heights) and Acadia Junior High which is a short walk across Pembina. The areas closest High School, Fort Richmond Collegiate, is located nest to Acadia in Fort Richmond. The area has one public library and is very convenient to the Univerity of Manitoba campus.
The Richmond West and Fort Richmond/University community has several churches within the area. Recreation in Richmond West
This community has a number of small lakes in its area parks. Close by is the impressive riverfront parks, including the large Kings Park in a tight bend in the Red. River. The community has 2 outdoor rinks, 1 indoor arenas, tennis courts, and an indoor pool at Margret Grant Park. The U of M has several museums, including one for Entomology, Clothing & Textiles, and a stadium for collegiate games of the U of M Bisons. Not far to the Northwest is the Winnipeg Soccer Complex and the Soccer Spectrum. There is the Southwood Golf & Country Club just north of the campus, and Arnason’s Driving range just north of Bishop Grandin Blvd. The beautiful Fort Whyte Centre for Environmental Education is just a few kilometres to the west.
Shopping Near Richmond West
Pembina Highway is the main south Winnipeg shopping district with many stores along its length. Area residents shop at Pembina Village and Fort Richmond Plaza, and also head north to Pembina Crossing. For major shopping expeditions, many area residents head north east across the Red River to St. Vital Shopping Centre. Both malls have movie theatres.
